Somersham Community Library (F.O.S.L. Friends Of Somersham Library) was founded in 2003 by a group of dedicated locals determined to save this valuable resource from disappearing after Council closure. The Community Library was born. It has thrived these past 20 years plus, but only due to our band of dedicated volunteers. Why not join us so that we are able to support our community, adults and children alike, for the foreseeable future.
To volunteer, please download our Volunteer registration form PDF or call into the library and pick one up.
You may be thinking :-
Q : Is there an age limit?
A : Anyone over the age of 18 can register to become a volunteer.
Q : How long does it take to become a volunteer?
A : Once your completed registration form is received your 2 nominated references will be contacted. After the successful references are received a mutually agreed time is arranged with our Volunteer Liaison to have an informal induction where you can ask questions, and get a feel of how the library works. A basic training programme is carried out to give you the knowledge and confidence to help support the day to day operations of the library and it’s customers.
Q : Will I be on my own ?
A : No. Our policy is that 2 volunteers must be on duty at all times to allow us to open.
Q : How much time do I need to spend volunteering in the library ?
A : We ask for 2 hours per week when at all possible, signing up in advance on a rota basis.
Q : What will I be doing ?
A : There are always regular tasks that need to be done. With further training more involved tasks are able to be undertaken, making the experience even more rewarding.
You can become a member of the Friends of Somersham Library (FOSL) (no volunteering required) to support the charity and volunteers in providing an excellent and professional library and information service, see our Support Us page for more information
