Somersham Community Library has been run entirely by volunteers since it was closed as a Council-run library in 2003. In 2023 we celebrated 20 years of successful volunteer-led operation by the Friends of Somersham Library (FOSL).
We continue to provide full library services to Somersham and other local villages as well as many other facilities. We are part of the Cambridgeshire Libraries Group and consequently offer full library services such as:
* Borrowing books from our own stock of many thousands of books.
* Borrowing any book from the full County book stock .. it will be delivered to Somersham library for collection.
* Returning of any County library book.
* Access to all County Library Services using your existing County library card.
* Enrolment into the County library system.
In addition we provide a number of other useful facilities for the local community, including:
* Free computer and internet access (with a library card).
* Free WiFi.
* Photocopying and colour printing facilities.
* Document laminating facilities.
* Local interest books.
* Information on local leisure facilities, walks, health and public transport.
* Village diary of events.
* A meeting place for local clubs and community groups.
We have free car parking (three spaces including one disabled access) and a bike parking rack.
Somersham Community Library is run by the Friends of Somersham Library (FOSL) which is a registered charity # 1149100.
FOSL are responsible for funding the running of the library and we do this by means of our own volunteer-led fundraising activities along with generous donations from FOSL members, grants from other local charities and organisations and much appreciated support from Somersham Parish Council.
